BACKING FABRIC
Backing fabric provides stability to the quilt top when loaded onto the quilting frame so it is very important to have your backing square. For the best quilting result your backing fabric should be 8 inches (20cm) longer and wider than the quilt top. This is to make sure there is enough room to attach to the frame and adjust for computerised designs.
PIECED BACKING FABRIC
If you are piecing your backing it will be stronger when you use a ½ inch seam and press the seams flat.
WIDEBACK fabric
For your convenience, I have a small collection of wideback fabrics available for purchase. Widebacks measure 108" (274cm) wide and are priced at $35.00 per metre.
